Places and history
Welcome to Clauzetto, “Il Balcone sul Friuli” (The balcony over Friuli): from here you can enjoy a view that sweeps across the hills and the plain to the Adriatic Sea, following the intertwined branch lines of the Tagliamento river. On clear days, from the Church of San Giacomo, after climbing 98 steps, it is even possible to see the outline of the Euganean Hills on the right, the Adriatic in front and Istria on the left.

The municipality covers an area of about 28 km², has about 400 inhabitants and is divided into numerous hamlets: the largest are Celante, Pradis di Sotto and Pradis di Sopra, which in turn are made up of small villages dotted with ancient fountains.
In particular Gerchia, Tascans and Zuanes, renovated after the 1976 earthquake, maintain their traditional architecture.
The territory contains precious woods, meadows and pastures, and wide natural spaces that are perfect for hikes of varying difficulty, to be done all year round. There are also interesting historical and artistic elements, such as the Parish Church of San Martino and, in Val da Ros, the only war cemetery in Western Friuli.
Here the Italian, German and Austro-Hungarian dead were laid to rest during the Battle of Pradis in 1917, after the rout of Caporetto.
Several archaeological campaigns on the Pradis Plateau have brought to light ancient traces of the presence of Neanderthal men, dating back more than 40,000 years, fragments of a profound time whose interest goes beyond national borders. Don’t miss a visit to the Museum and Pradis Caves.
