The Friulian Woman Monument

The Friulian Woman Monument

In 2016, the Monument to the Friulian Woman, La Mari dal Friûl (The Mother of Friuli), was inaugurated with a mosaic, dedicated to the one who has always represented a reference point for the community, in emigration and during the world conflicts, but which also aims to strengthen the Region’s feeling of autonomy.

The Monument has been placed at the belvedere of Somp Ciùc di Anduins, from which there is a breathtaking view, ranging along the course of the Arzino. It can be reached by following the Troi dai Asìns, the path of the populations once united under the Pieve d’Asio. The path connects the Monument to the Church of the Madonna della Neve.

The mosaic was made by the Mosaic School of Spilimbergo and was carried by volunteers.

The area in which Montereale Valcellina stands has been inhabited for at least three thousand years: the oldest evidence of human settlements dates back to the 14th century B.C., the so-called Bronze Age. Some swords that have re-emerged from the gravel of the Cellina date back to this period, perhaps of a votive nature, linked to the cult of the torrent or of a deity linked to water.
